Hi, I'm Bill, and I was right where you are, about 30 years ago. It was the beginning of the technology revolution, and quite analogous to today’s world. I was given a division of SunGard, tore it down, and rebuilt it from the ground up.  We didn't have the great resignation, but we faced a massive offshoring. Pandemic and work from home? I instituted work from home policies in the early 2000s, when there were precious few tools to support it.

During my time as a senior executive I was required to aggressively alter business direction. The changes were significant and impactful to my teams: previous guidance was upended, goals switched, and expectations reversed. Throw in offshoring, financial constraints, and layoffs, and you end up with unhappy, disengaged employees. There’s a solution to each problem, sometimes difficult and hard to swallow, but a leaders job is to put the organization in a position to succeed, regardless of the circumstances. When the division was finally purchased in 2015, we had great engagement scores and extremely low attrition rates. Our customers loved our services, we had reduced self-inflicted wounds to near zero, and proved that radical change was possible - if the team understands what’s required and acts in unison. I’m proud of the many people who made it all possible. Many of whom became great leaders themselves, with a little help from their coach.

About Bill

Starting on the ground floor at SunGard Data Systems, Bill progressed to running the business unit in which he began. Having been instrumental in helping the start-up grow to a $5B Fortune-500 company, Bill became business unit President in 2005. That same year SunGard was purchased in one of the largest private equity leveraged buyouts of all time. In 2015 most of SunGard, including Bill's segment, was acquired by publicly held FIS for $9B.

Throughout his career, Bill has focused on providing information technology, business continuity, and data center services across many vertical markets, including insurance, manufacturing, retail, government, and finance. Bill's efforts placed SunGard on Gartner's Magic Quadrant for IT Outsourcing, as well as being awarded Waters Best Datacenter Provider. His experience includes advancing through all levels of management, with a hyper-focus on continuous improvement and doing more for less.
